Advice on Replacement Windows

One of the fundamental questions to ask yourself about replacement windows is whether you really need them. For many homeowners, the answer is no. If your main reason for replacing windows is to lower you energy bills, it probably isn't worth it.

That's because energy lost through windows accounts for only a small portion of overall home energy consumption. You would be better off spending the money on attic insulation or a more efficient heating system. Even if your windows are in bad shape, it may make more sense to repair rather than replace them. If you have an older home with original wooden windows, replacement windows can actually lower the home's market value. In general a window replacement is an investment that takes a long time to pay off.
